Crossclub.cz

Went to a very strange place yesterday, yes - I know I said Roxy was strange, but Crossclub is even more stranger. It is impossible to describe the place, you have to go there sometime, but I will try.

First we took the trip to Masarykova dormitory where we watched the Czech-people introdue their country (dobre - very good). Afterwards we went straight to Crossclub (around 12 PM). When we arrived there was an abandoned bus with strange lights outside. There was a beergarden outside (the weather is nice - around 20 degrees at daytime) and 2 floors with different music inside. Everywhere there where "things" - like from the scrapyard or the streets. They had these computer-motherboard-cards hanging on the walls, and they had put neon-lights on it. They had different-colored lights everywhere at the walls and hanging from the roof. The chairs and sofas was made of metall, wood, wool and everything strange. A washingmachine hang on the wall, the door of it was replaced by glass, neonlights inside, there where LPs and CDs inside and it was turned on. In the roof of one room there where some strange metall-light-arm-robot-thingy that rotated around in different directions and so on.

The music was also very odd. First he just had a song on from the computer, and he was just shaking his head to it (what did he smoke?). Then he turned on some background-music, found a microphone and started to make alot of strange sounds (like Sergeant Moses Hightower from Police Academy - here is a picture of him from dvdverdict.com). After that _song_, he found a guitar and started playing it. All the time there was a strange musicvideo in the background with 3-edged mushrooms, meadows, cars and flying dots.

EDIT: I almost forgot to mention he also sang a song while he simulated some rather "private sounds."

And just to say it right away, I did not smoke anything - only beer for me!

Todays meal: Chicken-breast with sausage, mushroom and spinach inside - and rice

Marit!

Marit will arrive in Prague at 4-5 PM on 23th of november! Only 20 days left. My parents will visit me 1 month after. Hope some of my friends will come to visit Prague next year.

Finally I have attended some courses and have schedule for most of them. I will be going to a job interview as a Payroll administrator tomorrow (norwegian/english and MS Excel skills required) - and if it is a part-time job, and sounds some interesting I may take it. On wednesday I have to meet with some professors to discuss if they can open some courses for me. But untill now I have school from 4-8 PM on mondays, some hours on tuesday, wednesday, thursday - and best of all: no lectures on friday :)

Trip to Pardubice

The municipality coat of arms for Pardubice - reminds me about "Levanger Kommune" in Norway.
A couple of photos from around Pardubice
One of the dormitories in Pardubice
Strange building for the CSOB-banka
Did I mention we searched for a hostel for 5 hours? Well, as you can see we where a bit far of the tourist area.
When we finally arrived at the right place (according to the map and the nice girl at the information center) we met a man that only spoke czech. After calling around for 15 minutes we realized that it had been shut down - because it said: "For sale" on the building. So after 5 hours walking this is how we all felt, and decided to get some FOOD (and beer..)
If you go to a restaurant, please do not order Mexican salad. As you can see on the picture it is not exactly a 5 star meal. Try the chichken-toast appetizer instead - dobre!
After not bringing our passport or any ID, we tried to get a room at the student dormitory. She did not speak a word english, but we managed to understand "pass and polizie", and promised to send the passport-number with email when we arrived home today (which I have done). The beer-festival was full of drunk people, beer for 14 CZK (4 NOK) and stupid things you could buy to wear around your neck, ears and everywhere.
It is not everyday you can see an old man with 2 fingers up his nose, a strange old man trying to hit on a 30 year younger girl, a man with hitler-mustache and a local band that plays the same melody as the cheer-song of the Norwegian footballteam Rosenborg.

We danced polka through the whole building, including through the bar and kitchen
This is where it all happened.

The set-list for the heavy-metall band the night was: REM,Rednex and alot of czech songs (the one I remember is pivo - that was the only word thay said through the whole song).

After the beer-festival we went to a local pub/bar and "looked at" some girls that could never have survived the Norwegian winter, but it is hard to find windproof underwear these days.

At last you can have a little test about one of my friends here in Prague. You have to find one thing that is wrong in the following sentences: "I drink alot of beer, shag beautiful women, go to shopping malls to find different flavours of condoms, I`m a Muslim, do not eat pork and like to party."

In Pardubice there are hardly any people (except for the students) that speak English, so it is a really nice place to go to learn czech. They also have the best icehockey-team in Czech Rep., so I want to go there someday to see a match.

Strahov dormitory

Pictures Strahov dormitory (where I live). You can see we have both wolfes and articulated buses here in Prague. And the stadium is the biggest one in Czech republic, even though it seems very abandoned on the outside.

Pardubice tomorrow

This will be my last post untill sunday. I will go out tonight, and tomorrow I will take the train to a town called Pardubice or something and attend a Beer-festival :P (as I haven`t drunken enough beer already). Will get back with pictures and stuff at the end of sunday. Got 2 more courses on school today, so now I only need 13 points for this semester - which I hope to arrange in the upcomming week.

If there are anyone else you think of that should know about my blog, please be so kind and direct them to: http://siggen.blogspot.com.

Good luck to Vedrana at the hospital in Prague, hope you will be back in business soon!

Laundryday in Prague

Laundry day in Prague

Csob-bank recomends strip club + even more paperwork

Well. At least in Norway it is not common to stand in a bank, chat to a nice guy (the bank-clerk actually) and get recommended a great strip-club in Prague (The one not far away from Golden Tree...). Have to check it out sometime.

Did get answers from 2 professors today - and now I only need to "hunt down" 13 more credits/study points/ECTS tomorrow (or the following week). I think you should get 10 credits just to manage to find all the papers,persons,manuals,courses,not-open courses,closed-courses,full-courses,rooms and professors. I think I will write a book about it in my free-time. So recommendations for you who are going to study at CTU (Czech Technical University) in Prague some day: Start the paperwork already when you touch the beautiful ground of the Prague airport. The papers you sent when you where home in may/june and got approved does not count anymore - from now on you are a lonesome cowboy against the Czech papermill :) But the buddy-system and the internatinonal office (thanx Katka) is a real life buoy and completely necessary for surviving in Prague.

Todays meal: Spaghetti in the canteen for 60 CZK (15 NOK)
Todays czech word: brambor - potato

Damn paperwork at CTU!

Ok, now I am very tired of the CTU and Czech papermill. Today I tried to register 7 courses at FEL (fac. of Electrical Engineering at CTU) - but only 1 got approved, the other courses where closed or full. So now I have to email all the professors that teaches the subjects and ask them if they have room for an extra norwegian in their class. Grrrrreat. And will probably have to choose courses that I do not want in the first place. Grrrrreat. And to top it of: tomorrow is the St. Wenceslas Day (Czech Statehood Day) - YUHU - hurray for the brave man.

But thanx to the international office at CTU and Katka Bilova it is possible to live and let live in this mess of a paperwork. Think I have to be an employee here for one year after I am finished to study - to teach them how it can be done :).

Did also go out yesterday. Met some 30-yearold Norwegian women, good to finally talk "trndersk" again. I am going crazy with all the finnish and french talk around the dormitory :) I even tried to learn french yesterday: "Do you want to dance with me" - but can not remember anything than it ended with [dancei] or something... So mutch for my french-course.
